So I have been doing some thinking and I am wondering about a sump for my 30 tank. Don’t know if a good size for it or if I should even put a sump on the tank. Super light stocked with only a clown and some snails in it currently. I have been keeping up on water changes and things are going fine.

They are also a great place for a skimmer, heater, carbon, extra rock, etc, but if the KISS principle is working for you then why bother.

They also make your system bigger overall for stability. I've set up a 38, 25 and currently a 29 gallon all with sumps.

I want a sump to hide my stuff as to give me more tank space .

I’d recommend getting the largest cheap glass tank that you can fit in your stand. Have a local glass shop cut you a few pieces of plate glass for baffles and silicone them in where you want em. It’s that easy, and shouldn’t cost more than 50-100 bucks total. All these outrageously expensive and overbuilt store bought acrylic sumps crack me up.

It’s just a place to hold a skimmer, couple heaters, and a return pump. That being said, you’ll be glad you did it. I can’t imagine maintaining a reef tank without one. Good luck.
