I'm new to feeding and dumps. Running hob for now. Display will be a 40 gallon breeder around 5 ft high. Is this sump sufficient enough to do so, and how would be an efficient way to set it up minus the bio balls. I've searched for quite awhile now for this sump and can't even find its name, let alone set up instructions, or if this (from what I can tell equivalent to a danner 9.5.) pump, will be sufficient. Sump set up and plumbing is my goal to learn. But I'm lost in bean animals and siphon and .... I'm just lost. Maybe I'm not processing it all as simple as it is. But you guys are consistently google results for asking questions. I can diy well, and I'm willing to. On a tight budget for a month or so. Do I keep the hob stuff for now, or is this a better choice?

Hey DaddyNemo ! 1st ,welcome ! You are at a good place for help . That's some "old" WetDry filter ,no tellin who made it . Back in the day ,these were top line filters (before Folks wanted corals ) . It's really too small to use much with other than what it was designed for. The Problem was they did nothing for nitrates. Great for fish only aquariums . So, You have a 40 breeder? how much room do Ya have under the stand? Something larger/longer would be better if You have room. Please ,give us a pic of this tank & stand! Good Luck !

edit Don't feel too lost Your not the only one around here !

The tank stand my neighbor and friend and I are designing. Neighbor works a cnc that can cut 20'x8' 2" steel "sheets", so my design ops are endless, and friend is a welder. Stand will be 48" long 20" wide and around 58" high. Going to build it for a 90, bit with support for my current 40g breeder. My end game plan is a 90 display with a 40 sump. Ok. I've had it for about 3 weeks now and only bought it for the mag pump. (40$ for all) and was curious about a use or purpose. Could just use it to store stuff/bottles next to sump

Oh yeah, stand will be 1/4" angle iron 2"x2"

I like the height. Not so much bending over to look" into " the tank. Your plan for a 90 is great. You can put a 40 breeder on it . If You can do a fish only until the 90 comes along? I see no probs with using what Ya got.
then I see a 40 breeder as a sump? Maybe plan the stand so this tank will fit ?

Yeah this is the plan. A 40 breeder leaves enough room under the 90 to work and store some bottles. 40g is already working well with several frags. So it will go to a larger reef when stand a new tank are ready

I wish I had a 40 breeder under my 90 gallon. I only have a 29 gallon and do wish I had a bit more space. Narrow sumps are a pain to work on/in with equipment. So the more free space it has the better. The 90 with a 40 setup would be just about perfect.
