I am setting up my first reef tank in my office with the sump in the closet. I want to run the pipes along the baseboard to keep it clean. My concern is I have about an 8' horizontal run then back up vertically 3', then horizontal again to the sump. I have an Eheim 2400 based my head pressure calculation, but I am more concerned about the drains (bean animal). Any advice/concerns with this setup before I put too much time into running the plumbing?

@New2Reef1 what is your concern on the return line?

If it’s whether or not the return will make it back “up” to the sump I think it will as long as the entry to the DT drains are higher than the exit to the sump. I’d also make sure there is a “free fall” into the sump so you don’t risk a siphon effect.

Not really. It would have to be like 10 gallons without making modifications to the stand.
I’m going to give this setup a whirl and see how it works out. I know I’m going to get some algae and funk in the horizontal runs so I will put union joints just before and after the horizontal runs. Will post an update on the results once I have it up and running. Thanks for the input.
