Ok, so I have decided to go with a reef ready tank to replace my leaking 75 gallon. What size sump would you recommend? I was thinking something like 30 gallons?? Also, does anyone have one to sell? I'm considering adding baffles to a glass tank to make a sump, but would consider any suggestions.

This has been a really crappy week for me. Leaking tank, anemone stuck in pump, firefish decided he needed a deadly suntan...

Will anemones be an issue if I add a sump...I think it might be safer for them this way, but maybe I'm not thinking it through...kinda overwhelmed right now...

if anything I would think a reef ready tank will be no different for the anemone. accept you wont have the filters suction tubes in the tank for them to get sucked to. the only danger i would see with nems would be other pump intakes that will remain in the tank.
as for sumps, 30 would be good. buying an acrylic would be the best and easiest. but if you have the time you can buy acrylic sheets and glue them in to make one. If you go that route you can get technology sales off bonny oaks to make some sheets to your demintions
also glass cages or ocea can make sumps affordably

I've got a 75 with a 29 sump. Its working fine for me. I use an overflow box for drain into the sump, and I can't imagine an anemone being capable of coming out of the water to get into the overflow box. In my set up, the only danger would be the powerheads.

I built my sump out of a used 29 gallon, and silicone with acrylic sheets in there. The advantage of having one built is you can choose the dimensions. Here is an old shot of my sump. I've redesigned it, but you get the idea.

Thanks. How much, Phin? I'm on a very limited budget since this has all happened so quickly. I have a 29 tall that I am thinking about just using as a sump.

yeah lowes and 40 -50 bucks and u will have a sump u need silicone to lol ive been dormant for awhile but the tank is still going no sps after mayham but still alive lol

I made my sump out of a glass tank with siliconed acrylic. Just make sure the baffles are in correctly (you want the water flowing under the last baffle for no bubbles.....duh).

Thanks guys...i got a really good deal on a used sump. Does anyone have a protein skimmer that will work in a sump? That is my next thing I'm looking for. Or suggestions where to buy...also, if you have cheato algae in the sump, what kind of light do you use?

I bought a grow lamp from Petcare. Its like $8 for the lamp, and 1-2 for a full spectrum light bulb. Should be enough for macro-algae.
