I purchased a 20L sump that was already built from a guy that ended up not using it. It will be going with my 40b that I am building.

My questions is how do these numbers look? was this meant to be a skimmer, fuge, return layout or was the return meant to be in the middle? the fuge seems awfully small if it is the middle chamber. Any input would be appreciated, I can move things now but won't in a few weeks.

I go with skimmer, FUGE , return. The bubble trap leads me to this.

Im 2 weeks in my tank so advice dont weigh so much but i had a similar draft design and was told to space the baffles out more to help with cleaning. Nice design tho will you have enough room for the extra water during a power shut down on purpose or oops moment?

skimmer fuge return is my intended plan, and what i think was his... but the 7 inch fuge seems small unless he had a huge skimmer

I would go with skimer
Fuge then return
My thought is u skim to clean the goes though the fuge and then the return im new but always thought if you skimmed after fuge then u losse on the all the stuff it adds back but not a %100 on that

Thanks for replies, I think my main concern is if the fuge section is big enough to make a difference if it is the smaller middle section

If makes you feel any better mine is only 8 wide on a 120 and im useing a 50 gal long sub

Could go fuge, return, skimmer. Feed the fuge with a line coming off the return.

That's the way mine is. I control the flow into the fuge with a valve. Some drain water would bypass the skimmer but since the water is always circulating it'll be skimmed eventually.

thanks for input everyone, I think i am going to move the first baffle to give a little more room
