My sump leaked. I closed return valves and pumped as much water out of the sump as possible how do I fix it? Over one night I would say 5 gallons leaked. It's less than 5 years old I think. I bought it used, bashsea 36. There's nothing wrong with the plumbing but the tank is half way full. The water looks like it's coming from the return pump chamber side. I also don't know how I would remove the sump.

Is there something blocking the sump since you can't remove it out?

In my opinion you did the right thing by closing the valves as for the return pump is there any way you can disfigure the inside pump in the tank and make it point up out of the water to make it not take in water?

Once you clear the issue of a return flow from the return pump I would try to remove the sump to inspect it more clearly and head to the store to get a new aquarium to replace the sump for atleast a few days till you can fix the problem

bashsea is acrylic, deal with stopping water first, dry area, weld on 16 ,inside and outside of leaking area
can also use acrylic strip with weld on inside .
get pics of area ,as soon as you can.
