Ok I have a 10 gallon sump that I set up maybe a month ago. I am using a clip on desk lamp with a 100watt equivalent cfl bulb. It's one of those rubber coated ones for like a shop light or something. I have chaeto in the sump

I am noticing a lot of algae in the sump.

How long should I be running the light and should I worry about the algae. The light is on for a long time every day probably 14 hours or more

Sounds about right. Run the light when your DT lights are out. But 100watts? WOW. I run a 40w Compact Flourescent on a 45g.

Ok well I have a open stand so I can run it when I leave for work at 5am and my blues come on at 12 and whites at 2 and my whites off at 9pm and the blues off at 10pm

When should I shut the sump light off?
It's in a open stand and in our bedroom so running while we are sleeping is not gonna work

And yes it's like a 26watt cfl which is equivalent to 100watt

Should I go with a smaller bulb? If so what size

your ok if its a cfl, no worries. Some run it 24-7, I did this for awhile and ened up with a sump full of unidentifiable ickies growing. So I now run it opposite my main lighting. Not when my blues come on but my halides.

Ok so another question do you know what this is and is it bad?
