Everyone was very helpful in helping me to deciding on acrylic or glass.. I am planning on a 75 g glass with a powerful HOB, skimmer and PH's just like I have now and it works beautifully on my 30g. Will I get the same results on a 75g if I get a bigger HOB? Or should I get a sump? Do I HAVE to get a sump to have a successful reef tank? Other than the esthetics, pros and cons please!

Thanks again!
Judith

If I am to upgrade to a bigger tank I'd go for a Sump; More room for equipment. Check out this link Advanced Acrylics - Custom Acrylic Fish Tanks

Thanks for the link! Wow sumps are not cheep! I have an old 20g tank..I guess I can consider that.. A sump is a whole other thing I didn't really plan on but now I'm thinking should. I'm hoping to get comments on how great it is to have an HOB on a 75! LOL I don't think that will happen.. Maybe Ill look into used sump equipment..

a sump is the best option, but many tanks including my 120 gal. are sumpless. a Reef Octopus BH-1000 or 2000 would be more than enough for a 75. if your planning on dosing and want an ATO then I would run a sump. I have softies and a few lps and don't dose. so far everything is fine.

I have a guy I can put in you in touch with from Florida that makes awesome custom acrylic sumps (acrylic doesn't matter for a sump). Hes pretty cheap. He made my first one, 48x24x18 for $430 shipped.

Ok sounds promising! Ill take note of your filter suggestion.. Thanks!

Thanks.. Its a bit steep for now but if I consider a sump when I make my final plans maybe ill ck him out...

Is it stupid to add one after? Obviously drilling would be out but can it still be done with hoses?

You can use overflow boxes instead of drilling. Personally I would drill it, but many people have tanks with overflow boxes. Petco is having their dollar per gallon sale right now so you might want to pick one up to build a sump out of.

yes, you can get overflows. most are a bit noisy and some are not spill proof. I would rather go without than have external overflows.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
