Any advice or feedback on the design? I am all good on the actual handy work side of plumbing

Thanks!

do you have a main and emergency drain? If possible I'd swap the 90 degree elbows for 2x 45s for or a sweeping 90 to preserve flow rates and prevent distant future clogs

I would use 2x 45s in all cases if space allows, really no downside other than a few extra seconds of pipe work.

I was looking through your tank thread, would you recommend a gate valve on the drain pipe? As I was thinking about adding one. I noticed you had one there and not on the return.

absolutely yes! The mantra I follow is never valve the return line, just use a controllable DC pump. Then you can tune the drain with the gate valve, and tune the return via DC control, to get the lovely sweet spot of balance.

I feel like it's easier to adjust on a vertical pipe, and the flow restriction is more uniform as well. This is just bro-science conjecture that makes sense to me, though.
