Marine Depot is not normally my go to for supplies but I thought this article was pretty well done and could be helpful in understanding the different pieces of the sump (as well as options to consider).

To be honest I just thought it was a lot of links to their products and not how to plumb a sump. And the illustrations were made by someone who doesn't understand how the water level interact with baffle height and placement.

I could see how you'd think that. I wasn't obsessing on the drawing as much as the information about different considerations as your tank gets bigger and more complex. Can't fault them for trying to sell their stuff while they're at it.
