I’m not big on factory built sumps, but that sump you have will have a water level of the baffle that comes off the bottom and extends a little more than halfway. I have no idea what that short little baffle is next to the socks??? All the way to the left is the return section which will have a level lower than the aforementioned half+ baffle. I hope my description is clear.

My guess is that short baffle stops water from rushing through the socks across the floor of the sump....less agitation.

I think the short one might be to keep a refugium bed in place, but that is just a wild guess.

So basically just leave the small one and what cut some slots down the tall 1st baffle on left so water level isn't so high or to where it needs to be

Actually my theory doesn't make sense, as that would mean the last section would be both for a skimmer and a return. So middle must be for skimmer?
Do you know what water level height your skimmer works at?

Skimmer in the middle, return pump or pumps on the left. No idea why the right baffle is so short. You could toss some LR rubble in it though and call it a home run.

With that sump, I'd want a separate refugium on a riser supplied with a small pump from the left and overflowed back into the mid section. But, I'm a big believer in separate refugiums so consider how I'd want one no matter. ;)

BTW: nice sump!

That is a typical 2 chamber store bought sump. The short baffle is to keep some sort of sand bed from being pummeled by the incoming water. Don't modify it. The water level will be at the top of the blue line on the other side that says "water line" or something like that. The middle skimmer section will be at the top of the baffle.

No water line or a sticker,..and was actually made by a company called ALS if I remember correctly but could not find any info about them...iam not gonna mod it until I see that the water level for skimmer is ok..
