Sump question

I currently have a sump refugium. I have live rock rubble in the fuge. I was thinking of adding live sand to help with nitrate levels. Would adding live sand to the refugium cause my tank levels to spike?

I have live sand in my Refugium...no problems with a good amount of green grass

Adding live wont hurt anything,since it is a refugium.I would add some macro algae like chaeto.It grows really fast but will work wonders on water quality!
