So i am in the process of building a 90 gal , got one @ craigslist tank stand canopy sump reactor lights. ..... System came with a 20 gal high mod to sump , i been looking for a sump around and reading ... Question i have is , should i go bigger or stay with it. ... I went to my local shop , went to buy a 34 inch sump and they told me is too big ..... ... Any recommendations ....

I've always felt you should go with the biggest sump you can fit under the stand. This allows for more water volume, and more space to work in the sump. You should easily be able to fit at least a 30-36" sump under the stand depending on the access to the stand.

Thats what i been reading , just checking on options .. ... I been looking at 34 to 36 .... But when he told me is too big i just stop ..... This will b my first sw aquarium ... Thats why i ask .... Thanks

Oh definitely, whatever you can stuff under the DT, the bigger the better.

I had a 90g and I had a high sump. I personally would not do that again as it was difficult to work between the bottom of the DT and trying to get in the top of the sump. I would sacrifice volume for that.

extra length is fine the only time ive ran into problems is with height. I had a 20 long sump and opted for a 29 just for the extra water volume and now I have trouble getting my skimmer cup out from between my stand and top of my sump. Measure and if everything will fit right go for it.
