So I had a question about my sump. Instead of doing the traditional way of creating, Skimmer, Refuge, Return. I want to do a full refuge with no skimmer or baffles but still keep the return pump but attached to the wall of the aquarium. It will be a 10 gallon sump on a 55 gallon aquarium.

I think you will be continuously cleaning your return pump depending what kind of algae you keep in the fuge. Especially with cheato and some will end up in the tank. Don’t hesitate to try what you are thinking though. Most of what we learn is trial and error. It’s what makes the hobby fun. [emoji106]

It should work but you may need to figure out a way to keep the cheato out of your return pump
Yeah, I just realized this problem but luckily my LFS sells a (Mangrove?) which will eliminate the problem of getting algae stuck. Thanks!

You may want to try something like THIS. It's listed as "fine grade" but isn't that fine. It's a stiff filter pad that BRS used in one of their videos for those 3 cubes they setup. It can be used as a filtering wall because it's rigid and will stay in place. Water will pass through the entire thing and block any leaves from the return. Just a suggestion.
