So I have a few spare small 10 and 20 gal tanks laying around was wondering if I can cut the glass from those to use as baffles instead of going out and buying glass

Absolutely. Why not? Just don't use the bottom pane - that's generally tempered.

Yea the 10 isn't tempered on the bottom not sure about the 20 but I should be able to have enough to do my baffles with the 10 gal

yeah not only does that save you money, recycling is good for the planet! so they say.

Also I will add there is no technical reason to have your glass perpendicular to the sump wall. So if the glass from the 10 and 20 is "close" but a little too long, you can install it at an angle to avoid having to cut it at all.

Holy cow I wish I knew that when I was building my first sump a few months ago and cutting the plexiglass...trying to cut...lol

I've done this before, hardest part about it is cutting the old tank apart. The seams are so tight you can even get between the panes with a razor..

use fishing line to get through the seams. it works great. hardest part for me was getting the trim to come off.

yeah good luck lol silicone is heat resistant up towards 250-260. that's why its used as an insulator in a lot of things.

Yea maybe carpet blades will work a bit better although alot more dangerous

just use fishing line or a piece of thing wire. i used some random solid 16G wire i had laying around. wrap it on 2 pieces of pvc to prevent from hurting yourself, use the pvc as handles and go at it.

Yea I got like 28 and 32 gauge wire I use for my e cig that should work
