Recently I set up a 75g tank with a 20G long sump. The sump is not a defugium. In fact, it's very basic -- as you can see in the pic -- but it works.

My only 'problem now is that I cannot make it into a refigium because I can't get out the 20gl out of there unless I love the whole thing (not going to happpen).

Since its barebottom, small particles have been adding up in a corner of the tank. Yesterday I removed most of it with a turkey baster; however, it takes too long.

Any advisable CUC for my specific sump???????

So if you want to add a small fuge, you can empty the sump out and get a piece of glass and silicone it yourself, let it dry out and there you have it. No need to move anything.

If you dont want any particles building up, just throw in a small power head in the sump.

You shouldn't put any CUC in sump because they can go clog your skimmer and return pump.

Uma

To help with a bare bottom sump and sediment build up.
Try running filter socks around your down flow pipe.

Also if you use the Python "No Spin". Take off the big end tube and just use the end of the hose and the small build up will suck straight up and (lol) down the sink. :)

You can also use to vacuum your sand during water changes to keep it clean.

Very good ideas! Thank you! Lastly, what's the wait time for the silicone to dry out and be reef safe?

This is way better than the current vacuum/tube I have. Mine doesn't have good suction. Going to have to buy that Python. Thanks!

I bought a wet dry vac at home depot called a bucket head. It pops onto the lip of a 5 gallon bucket. Has great suction and I keep my sump spotless and do my 10 gallon H2O changes in less than 20 minutes.

I'm sorry. That's not in my wheelhouse and I'd only be making a logical guess and it also depends on the brand.
You may want to post the silicone time frame on Randy's thread.

Thats a good question, since the stuffs i did was during the build stage so i had enough time to let them dry. But a great feature in this forum is the "Search" function and i found the following : From silicone colour to leaking tank there is tons of info.

Thanks

I have the Buckethead too and it makes water changes and cleaning the sump a snap. I pump water out of the sump for water changes and it sucks up the detritus easily. It's much better suction than any cleaning vacuum (like the Eheim cleaner) but it sucks out a lot of water so I would only use it during a water change. If you change water/clean sump weekly I think it will stay looking nice. Good luck!

Went ahead and bought the bucket head, and I love it! WCs are a breeze and the suction is impressive. Thanks for the recommendation!!!
