Im looking to use a sump instead of a hang on filter. I have a 27g bow front tank thats obviously not drilled. What size sump would i need? and whats a good option. Id also have to get on overflow box, skimmer and return pump. Am i missing anything?

Im newer to reefing but i feel as if im ready for a sump and more uogrades.

Are you looking to get something pre-made or make your own? If you're looking for pre made you could do something like the eshopps pf300 overflow box with an aqueon profiles 1 sump. And a small skimmer like a tunze or a skimz nano skimmer :)

Depends, are you going to upgrade your tank any time soon? If so I would get a larger sump than what you need now. That way you don't have to upgrade that in the future.

More water volume = more stability

Good call I didn't think of that. And it'll also depend on his size constraints. Go as big as your stand can accomidate.

A standard 10 gallon tank should be fine IMO. Skip the baffles, get yourself a return pump, a heater and a skimmer and your set. (maybe an ATO as well) Keep it simple. GL.

Just as an example here's an older picture of the 10 gallon sump I have underneath my 20 gallon reef. The skimmer has been upgraded since then, but everything else is pretty much the same.

My tank is actually on a sort of a table, kind of hard to describe but i have a ton of room. So bassially, the bigger the better is what im understanding. I do plan on eventually getting a bigger tank but i would just keep my 27 going and get a whole new system for my future bigger tank.
