So I in the slow process of getting my 120 reef tank ready for a mixed reef. I am looking at sumps and I keep coming back to the Trigger Ruby 36. Is there anything else out there comparable for the price. This seems to be the one but before I purchase looking to see if I missed another brand. The sump will house a Skimz Sp207 skimmer which has a decent size footprint. Then macro algae and a Coralbox DC9000 return pump.

I really like the fijicube DIY sump baffles if you wanted to save some money.

The trigger system makes a nice sump. I have the exact model you are looking at. I have only one problem with it. The filter socks are in the back. It’s a pain in the neck getting to them. I’m looking for a new sump for my upcoming build. I have used sumps with the filter socks on the side on tanks I have helped setup. They are a lot easier to use. Take a look at the Bashsea sumps. Aquarium Specialty carries them.

On my 120 I use a 40 breeder with no baffles.
7" filter sock, Tunze 9430dcc skimmer, lifegaurd medium reactor, converted Skims media reactor to carx.

for a 120 I'd probably go for a 40 gallon breeder tank and if I needed some separation or bubble stoppage I'd use some aquamesh from BRS.

40 breeder is an option but I need separation for algae and return pump. I know Fiji sells a kit but not sure I want to go that route although they work well

Do like the Bashea but the only thing is the return section. Looks like it’s pretty tight for a pump. Kind of 2 small sections on the return side. Maybe I’ll do a little more research on those.

Well I think I narrowed down to these 2. Now the decision. I like the Bashea but the only thing that worries me is the return section. Scared it may be too small. Will be using a DCA 9000 return pump.

I use the trigger ruby 20c and I love it. It was between that or the Ruby 36, but I keep my 10 gal ato and Apex controller in the stand so I was willing to deal with the smaller sump. If you want to possibly save some bucks email trigger about the blemished models. Great deals to be had. Got my 20c cube sump for under 250 bucks, shipped. Iirc the blem had to do with some sloppyish glue, but I didn't notice it and if I did, the price was still worth it.

I run a 40b (petco sale) with a single baffle I had cut by a local shop. I no longer run macros, but my sro-2000 does have a large foot print. Those sumps look really nice!

Absolutely love my Ruby 36. As someone else stated, the filter socks are kinda a pain being in the back - but I’m used to it now. Sump is well crafted, holds lots of water, and flows perfectly (even with a fuge and tons of media).
