My tank has been up for about 18 months... Just bleached rock and a filter sock in my sump. Tank has been running great. Numbers are perfect... I change the sock every three weeks or so... Now starting corals... Wondering if my sump needs more.

I had to jump in here because I don't like what I see up on the wall......a digital power strip most likely branded Coralife, Zilla or GE. These are fire sticks and have caused for houses to be burnt down. Go on any major fish site and search and you'll find out about fires. Introduction of water is not necessary. One or our local club members had one go up in smoke, but he was fortunate to be home at the time. Again, branded under Coralife, Zilla or GE. Here's the one I had that as soon as I heard about the problems it go tossed in the trash:

Oh, and HERE's the link in R2R about one of these powerstrips causing a fire.

Uh I think the bigger concern is placing the power strip above your sump. I'm not sure how secure it is but it can very well take a swim. Hopefully your sump has a cover over it as it appears it does

And as to the warning about this power strip. I read the other thread and it's inconclusive what caused it. I wouldn't hesitate to use it

I ask one thing....Google "Coralife Power Center fire" and then draw your own conclusions, and if you wish to take a chance.

Lol well if you google anything with "fire" following it what would you expect to see? You have to be objective when evaluating a product or you'll be drawn to the bias and often negative perspective of it.

Thanks. I'll swap it out... It's just a power strip at this point I don't use the timers but will swap out

I would definitely upgrade the sump. Your display looks great and the best way to keep it that way is with solid filtration using a nice sump with different chambers to direct water flow and built in filter socks. Biotek makes a geat sump for the money and I am not sure how big your system is but the Biotek BIO series as well as the TEK series 36, and the 44 are amazing. They come with all kind of features like heater holders as well as probe holders. Slots to place power cords and a great refugium area if you would like to go that route. I would look into adding a nitrate reactor as well as they make things a lot easier in the long run and for the money you spend on water changes, they quickly pay for themselves. Biotek also makes a reactor called the BIO series and the TEK series in a media reactor as well as a pellet driver. The pellet driver is what you would like for tumbling some type of nitrate remover. Reef Interests makes a great product called all in one pellets and they actually remove nitrates and phosphates. We have been using them for years with great results. Here is a couple links that will give you some ideas to think about. Happpy Reefing!
