Sump refugium mud tray

I’m wanting to have a mud tray made for my sump. My question is where the socks empty into the first section, should the tray be taller, even, or shorter than the small divider between the two sections.

I'm not sure I understand the question. First, what exactly is a 'mud tray' and what does it do? And where will it be in the sump, under the filter socks?

It’s a tray for refugium mud so when it’s time to change out half the miracle mud every 6 months you just pull it out so it’s easier to clean without creating a mud storm in your sump. It would go in the refugium section in my sump which would be between the filter socks and the skimmer section. I’m just trying to figure out what would give the best flow without creating a mud storm in my sump.

I tried this idea of a MM tray, the mud tray has no functional use that I could discern. It has no effect which is about the best thing I could say about it other than making my sump a bit dirtier than it should be.

I feel silly and stupid for having even put it in.

Yes. That’s about where I’m at with it. The only reason I was considering it was to make changing half the mud out easier They recommend every six months on the container I think.

Are you saying the miracle mud had no effect?

Good question!

This stuff has been around for a long time, but I don't think many reefers use it. And if it had any real benefits, you'd think everybody with a refugium would be using it.
