I'm going from a 75 to a 125 and I'm in the process of drilling the 125 and building a stand and getting everything for it. The sump I currently have has a refugium but it's fairly small so my plan is to use a 40 breeder for only a refugium and somehow connect it to my sump. The issue is I really dont want to drill in my sump. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this work?

Drilling is going to be the best bet. Using pumps or siphons could fail and youll end up with an overflow of water.

Drilling and connecting will keep the water level consistent across both sump/fuge tank

I was kinda thinking about doing something like this. I found this pic online that gave me the idea.

I was going to suggest that by elevating the refugium above the sump, you could effectively set up the same method of flow as a tank.

You could split the 40 breeder so that a portion would catch water coming in from the tank. Then have it transition over to the refugium side. Make a connection to the existing sump from there. You would have to drill the breeder and use a bulkhead with PVC to drain into the existing sump.

From there is would finish out its path back to the DT.

Ah I see. Yeah, as long as you have it lifted and remember to clean out the drain from it (don't want it to get clogged!) you should be good. That's assuming you're willing to at least drill the 40

Ya I'm willing to. I've never done it before but I'm going to do my best. The 125 had a weird so called closed loop but only had 2 holes so I'm going to try to drill more 2.5 inch holes in it to make it a proper closed loop and I figured I'd drill a 2.5 inch hole in the 40. I've never drilled anything that's glass before so well see how it goes lol
