I just starting to look at putting a new tank together. I have only kept nano tanks, and I have had an 80g reef in the past but only ran a HOB skimmer and nothing else with success. I am now looking at building a 90g with around a 30g sump/fuge. The tank will have a center or two corner overflows. I am looking at running a wireless set up consisting of 2 mp 20's so I will not bother with a closed loop return. My question regarding the sump/fuge is, does it matter what order I place my skimmer chamber and fuge in. I am thinking having the drain run into the first chamber consisting of my skimmer then flow into the return chamber then last the fuge which will be powered by the return pump as well. The fuge will drain back into the middle chamber which is the return chamber. I don't know if this makes sense but any input would be great. I would like to run a calcium reactor and another reactor probably consisting of bio pellets. The tank will consist of LSP, SPS, and clams, lighting will be some sort of LED's I haven't got that far yet in my planning stage.

I like this arrangement and build this from 29g glass tanks for locals:

Sump (skimmer) > return < fuge

This way I can raise the baffle for the fuge clear up an inch from the tank rim, maximizing water volume, and then use a 3 baffle bubble trap between the skimmer and return. Split the drain from your overflow between the skimmer and fuge with a valve to the fuge to slow the flow thru it.

Great idea about splitting the drain from overflow to fuge and skimmer!
