I have 3 big pieces of Pukani and a sponge filter that has been sitting in my sump for 6+ months. The sump is part of a 9+ months active tank (DT+sump).
Is it correct that if I put those rocks and the sponge filter in a new tank, the bacteria are on the rocks and sponge will handle ammonia?
I'm seeing conflicting info on this, and more importantly, as I understand the biology, the answer should be "yes" but people say "no, you still need to cycle your new tank". It should be "yes" because live rock has the bacteria to process ammonia and nitrite --> converts it to nitrate. No?
