Just want to know your thoughts and or reasonings for putting things in specific chambers of your sump. Mine has 4 chambers 2 that are on the right one middle and a big one on the left. My return line is in the rear right chamber, skimmer in front right chamber cheato and rocks in center then return line and Gfo and carbon. I have heard of some people running their skimmer in the middle and return pump in middle etc etc. just wondering your guys thoughts about it all!

My drain goes into an T with one side going into the section with my skimmer and the other side going into my fuge. The fuge side pvc has a ball valve so I can control the flow into the fuge. Center section has my return pump.

But why is my question

I figured that slower flow into the fuge would be better for the chaeto and pods. I can always increase gph with my return pump w/o greatly affecting flow on the other side.

Typically and IMO the Skimmer should go in the first chamber of a sump or where the overflow water is first dumped. This is so that it has the best chance at skimming the Proteins out of the surface water from the display. I run only a 2-chamber Sump/Fuge made from a RR 75g with only a 12x18 Skimmer/Heater/Phosban Reactor section then a large 36x18 Refugium exiting to an external return pump.

Cheers, Todd
