I am currently trying to put together a sump using a 15 talk and standard 10. Simply because I already have the equipment and while I have built a couple acrylic sumps from scratch. I don't see why not go this way with it if will work. I'm starting with the 15 under the overflow and then linking the 10 by using a eshops over flow box. I'm using a in sump return pump. Has anyone ever seen this type of application or even tried it? I love input before continue plumbing the system.

I don't see why it would work.

If you're going to use a skimmer would it be in the 15 or the 10? Also, will the 10 have enough room in it to hold any overflow from when you turn off the pump?

Hmm I see what you mean. Guess Im back to building another sump. I should know better than to take short cuts on a reef tank.

Wasn't trying to deter you, it could work depending on water levels. If you turned the return sideways and built in a baffle to keep the level at the return low it might hold enough, but your ato system will have to be spot on to make sure the return doesn't run dry.

After puzzling everything together in a dry run, I found its just not going to work. For one, it leaves no real room for a macro algae compartment or a scrubber, it also leaves no room for a refeuge incase a fish needs put in jail or growing frags as I don't want starter frags in main display once the tank is mature. Note the tank is going to mostly be spoiled, Lps, and some super fancy mushrooms. You just never know what is going to fight.
