Sump setup

Read the topic up top about sumps, but wanted advice on setting up a new one from scratch.

Minus the plumbing etc, I will probably get the cups to replace filter socks, skimmer/return sections seem pretty standard, but for the 'overall' setup, would I want any live-rocks/rubble etc. in the refugium only? Any downside to placing extra rocks in the return section, or rock-rubble under where the socks/cups are?

One other thing I'd like to at least look into, is "Mud" or whatever refugium dirt stuff or other specific media I could/would want to put in the refugium....... Are there pros and cons to this, or just pros?

Anything you would do differently if starting a sump from scratch?

O.K. I lied..... I said "Minus Plumbing" but I do have a plumbing question....

I'm getting all colored PVC from BRS, but the article/thread says "flexible" for the return pump-to-tank is the way to go..... anyone have a link for a good option for that type of plumbing? Bonus points for aesthetically pleasing plumbing.....

My plumbing is not aesthetically pleasing as I did not plumb it however if you know the outlet size of pump (mine is 3/4 ID) aquarium tubing or food grade tubing then at bulk head it can be pvc here is a link that may help. https://gmacreef.com/return-line-plumbing-reef-aquarium-sump/
