I am thinking about adding a sump onto my system if I can get a 20 long to fit under my stand than I will do that for my sump. There is the possibility that I may not be able to get the 20 long to fit due to the fact of the center brace in the front and back of the stand. If that does not work my other options would be either a 20 tall or a 15, which would be the better choice if I end up having to go this route? Also any information someone can point me to in knowing how to choose the return pump that I would need would need to pump the water up about 50 inches. For the sump I am planning on a simple design with baffles and having the center as a refugium. Right now I am using an hob skimmer on my 72 gal bf that if I am able to make work hanging off the sump I would move down there. Otherwise I would continue to run my current skimmer and later down the road upgrade to a skimmer that I could put into the sump, but that will be awhile if I do. Thanks.

:bump: for some input. Also depending on the size tank that I am able to fit in would it be benificial maybe looking at doing my refugium as a seperate tank from the sump? Know that will probably not be able to do a large enough refugium to impact water quality much but main goal would be for growing copepods in it for the tank.

For pods I would do it. For a fuge I wouldn't. I run mine bare bottom.

What are the dimensions you are working with? If you can fit a 20 look at a 29. It's taller so that would give you more room for when your pump is off and your water drains.

Remind me again what size tank you are running.

It is a 72 gallon bowfront, the issue I might run into is getting things in with the center brace in the front and back. Have a feeling it its going to be a little tricky. There its a picture in my build thread of the stand that can be used for reference, it is towards the end of my thread if that will help.

I know what your taking about. My friend had a 46 bow and it was a nightmare getting anything to fit. You have a center brace in the back of the stand? Oh man.

I'll look at your thread and see what comes to mind.

Okay I looked and it seems that you have about 26-28" to work with in height and maybe 18 in width on each side.

I'll have to dig around to see. I can't remember what tanks will meet that requirement. If you want to drill you could try two (or more) 10 gallon tanks :).

Like mine. Only smaller.

You could use an aqueon model 1, it's 20"l x10"w x 16"h and should fit.

Otherwise if the issue is with the center back brace, you could simply have two more made the same size that you could attach further out and then remove the center one which should then clear up access

Thanks Loki for posting the picture on the thread at work right now so little difficult to do on the phone.

If I remember correctly the opening of the stand where the doors are is about 35 inches will have to double check when I get off of work and across I want to say have some where around 22 inches for both sides from door to brace. I will double check those when I get home this afternoon.

Okay double checked and memory of measurements was off the distance from door to center brace is 18 1/2 inches height of opening is 25 inches. At the narrowest part of the bottom of the stand it is 12 inches the widest it gets at the center is 14 inches measuring between the two braces.
