Hi everyone,

Would a 40" x 15" x 15" (approx 40g) sump work for a 5x2x2 150g tank?

The company building my new tank have had a cancellation on the above sump that they have already made and have offered it to me really cheap? I was hoping to go a bit taller for my sump but the price is so good that if I could get away with it, it would save me some money for this new set up.

Thanks!

I'd think so. I've got a 75g with a 20 long underneath. I don't utilize all of the height while it's running (maybe 7 inches) but need the extra 6" for water volume when the pump is off. 20 long was the largest I could fit due to stand constraints.

I would also think so. I have a 55 gallon sump on my 125 gallon DT, and it's almost too tall. I wish I would have used a 40 gallon breeder as my sump. If you correctly size the baffle height, you should be able to run an internal skimmmer and still have enough room if flow stops.
