Is a 20 gallon long a big enough sump for a 72 gallon tank?

Volume size I would say yes that is fine. I have a 40g sump on my 140g. Really depends on if your equipment will fit. With that said, I am one who doesn't run a ton of flow through the sump. But that is a separate topic altogether. There is some "rule" that flow through the sump should be 10x something or another. I'm pretty sure I run less than that "rule". Anyway, it should be fine. Personally I try go with the biggest sump as possible, while fitting everything you need underneath the tank, like dosing containers, etc.

Honestly, it wont have much equipment. I planned on just having a big refugium. No skimmer.
