So I’m not even sure I know how to ask this. I’m trying to figure out the maximum width sump that I can use in my stand.

My plan involves turning the sump on its side to maximize the width beyond the door opening dimensions. After I slide the sump inside, I’m wondering if there’s a standard amount of space needed to flip it in place. Undoubtedly this is a bit more than the width.

The openings on my stand are 17”, the interior floor dimension is right over 22.5”.

Questions are welcome, thanks for your collective parience.

Depending on sump dimensions or which route you wanna go as in building one or a built one already, it should be pretty straight forward. Also depends on what your trying to house in the sump. Are you trying to save as much space as possible? Pictures of the stand may give us a better idea!

In order to flip it flat your stand needs to be at least as wide as the corner to opposite corner measurements of your sump.

Measurement "C"

Honestly if your stand is pretty much square and only a few inches wider than the opening. You're not going to fit something much bigger than what would fit regularly through the opening. At this point you would probably be looking at something completely custom...

As mentioned above pictures would help us out a bunch.

You might want to see if you can temporarily remove the back of the stand, or some portion of the back of stand in order to fit the sump in through the back. Then after you have the sump in place, put the back supports in place again.

for what it's worth, i built a sump INSIDE the stand of my 75G tank... long story short it was a horrendous idea. no space for anything else but the sump. if it ever leaks, I'm screwed. if I ever need to get it out, I need to literally take it apart pane by pane... big dum dum move.

I highly recommend leaving some space, for lots of reasons including service and cleanup of stray water.

and on my 14G build, I decided to use a tank that fit like a glove in the stand, even had to mod the stand so it doesn't collapse. it was great for a while, but then came the need for dosing containers. no space inside stand meant they are now hanging on the outside of the stand being an eyesore.
