sump sock

You can use your washer w/ bleach or just rinse it w/ garden hose.

The general thought is you want to let it dry out to make sure all the bleach water has evaporated out of the sock but I have put them in my sump directly out of the washer with no ill effects to the tank. I generally do let them dry though. I have 5 that I rotate. After I take a dirty one off (every 2-3 days) I rinse it in the sink and then I have an old salt bucket with the screw on lid and I place it in the with water and a little bleach. After I get 4 of them I wash them and then let them dry out and then take my 5th one off and put it in the bucket.

+1 on the washer and bleach. I use 7 and change them daily. I pull one out and place it in a bucket with some bleach water mix, when I get up to 6 I wash them with some bleach and start all over

I use a similar approach to Paul. I have eight that I rotate, changing them every two or three days. When I get four dirty socks, I soak them in a 3-gal. bucket of hot water with a half cup or so (I just pour some in) of bleach. Using rubber gloves, I plunge them up and down several times in the bleach water, then let them soak for three or four hours. I then pull them out, dump the bleach water, refill with hot water, and plunge them up and down several times. That water gets dumped and the bucket refilled with tepid water to which I add dechlorinator. Again, several plunges, then I hang them to dry. I would not consider putting wet socks in the aquarium system, but with eight to rotate, the clean socks are always thoroughly dry by the time I need them.

When I first started using filter socks I would rinse the dirty one in the sink with plain hot water then take it to the basement and lay it across my RO/DI barrels to dry. Well after two socks and 4 days later my wife was like "what the heck is that smell downstairs!" I was walking around the basement trying to find it. I thought something got in and died and then I walked toward the barrels and BAM! it hit me.

I have 8 socks that I change one every 4-5 days.Throw them in the washing machine with bleach and do an extra rinse. Then let them dry be for using them.
