I use a similar approach to Paul. I have eight that I rotate, changing them every two or three days. When I get four dirty socks, I soak them in a 3-gal. bucket of hot water with a half cup or so (I just pour some in) of bleach. Using rubber gloves, I plunge them up and down several times in the bleach water, then let them soak for three or four hours. I then pull them out, dump the bleach water, refill with hot water, and plunge them up and down several times. That water gets dumped and the bucket refilled with tepid water to which I add dechlorinator. Again, several plunges, then I hang them to dry. I would not consider putting wet socks in the aquarium system, but with eight to rotate, the clean socks are always thoroughly dry by the time I need them.
