so I have everything set up and I’m trying f to fix my max water level and when I do there’s barley any water in my return pump so I’m wondering if this is normal or what I can do to fix it

I closed my valve a little bit now it’s just going out very slow but now it’s about halfway full is that about where everyone else’s is

I typically keep about 6" of water in the return section; ultimately, enough to cover the pump and keep it from sucking air is all you need.

You’ll want to add water when the return pump section gets low. You may want to invest in an ato to keep water level and salinity consistent

Looking at the sump, who made it? It looks like the baffl may be a bit high. Can you take a full shot. If it is too high the water will overflow the sump try8ng to get it to drain into the pump section

Now that I think about I think the baffles are backwards. The water from the bubble trap should go into the pump chamber from below.

I never understood that first panel unless it’s used as a second bubble trap. The water level from the first chamber is the same on both sides. Pull that first baffles out and level still doesn’t change. But I didn’t read the thread so I may be missing something which usually is the case

If your sump is draining that low, your system doesn't have enough water.

Turn your pump off. Then begin filling your display tank. Your water should overflow from the display to your sump. Continue filling until the sump is filled to the highest you would ever want to see, worst case scenario, ie if you had a power outage and the pump stopped running. Turn your pump back on and mark your level in that section. Now any evaporation will show as low water and you can manually top off to that line.
Next water change repeat and remark.
