Hello - we (my son and myself) are new to salt water, this is our first tank.

We have a 75 gallon tank we will use for the main tank, and we are designing our sump tank. What size sump tank would anyone recommend for this size fish tank?

Thanks

depending on the space you have available, you could go with something like a 20G long, or a 40G breeder. the more water volume the better. plus it gives you more room for equipment in the sump

Welcome to R2R! :D

30 gallons tank is the best choice for your 75g display tank. If you custom make then I offer the first chamber where water drain and place skimmer should be big area so you will have many option to choose skimmer type beside that, heater, filter socks, and pump for GFO and carbon should place in this chamber also around 17 x 12. Second chamber is medium as 11 x 12 for chaeto and last chamber for return around 6 x 12 ( 2 inches extra use for buffer I didn't count in there to complete 36 inches)

Mike has the same tank and we discussed this topic as well but at the end of the day getting a sump that holds all your equipment and always can hold all the water that will flow back down into the sump after the power goes out. I would say a 30+ would be fine.
