We just installed a sump tank for our aquarium yesterday.....and today we decided that we had the water level too high, so we turned it off and redid the height. We have it back in working order now, but I noticed that there are bubbles in the overflow box and bubbles going through the U tube. I don't remember bubbles yesterday, so I'm not sure if that is normal or ok. Just wanted to get some feedback. Also.....when I want to change the filter and clean the bio balls....do I have to turn the whole sump off to do so or is there an easier way? And lastly, do I need to do any type of water change for the sump ever? Just a few questions about the sump since I just got it together. Thanks in advance!!!! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!:)

I would first recommend removing the bio balls all together & add more live rock down there, bioballs in a SW system are detritus traps & can actually elevate nitrates, as far as the bubbles go you have to keep an eye on them, what will happen is they will collect in the bend of your u tube and decrease flow...try readjusting your overflow box and see if that helps. Your sump is part of your system as a whole, when you do a H20 change you change the water in your entire system so nothing special there thatyou need to do. Is your system a reef tank or FOWLR?

I did know about not using the bio balls for that reason, I am just supplementing with bio balls until I can get the live rock and I will be changing that. I will try readjusting the overflow, and I'll keep an eye on things. Thank you so much for your response!:) and we have a reef tank:)
