Hi guys built my sump all plumbing done return pun and overflow . I drain seem to b to slow to reach return pump is my pump to powerful or is it my overflow box . Any advice would be appreciated

Can you give a little more detail? Pump type, overflow type, drain and return sizes, etc.. I'm leaning in to the pump being too powerful.

Pump is Aqua one 3000 . My tank is 450 litres and 150 litre sump. Over flow box is reef octopus max flow rate 8000

did you install a flow control valve on your return pump? That will help greatly to adjust the flow to match the rate of the drain.

OK you just have a standard hang on back overflow. They don't have much of a flow rate. You will need to put a valve on your pump to crank it back until it equalizes.

Valve on pump and siphon ? What kind of vale excuse my ignorance I'm new to the hobby

You need a valve on the pump only, not on the siphon. The only siphon that warrants a valve is a full-siphon, which you do not have. Your pump (return) outflows your siphon (drain), therefore you need to cut back on the return flow to equalize the rate. A valve allows this to happen.

You should plumb in a gate valve for better control but a ball valve will also work.

Thanks for you help what sort of valve and how would I fix it to the pump. Will the valve slow the pump down then
