Hey guys, new to the aquarium world but needless to say I’m hooked. I’m currently working on the setup and wanted some opinions. Would you put your Sump under DT or in the next room? The next room is my garage and ultimately the sump would NOT be directly behind the DT. It would be offset about 8’. This is where I am building my salt mixing station and RODI station. I would black out the windows but the garage door would be open quite often. What would you guys do? Under DT or garage? Also, I will have a full apex system with Trident.

I like the garage option:
- if you spill water, so what
- the noise is for the most part out of you living area
- easier for water changes, you dont have to haul stuff into the house
- you have a lot more room
- the fresh air in you garage will help keep your PH higher
Downside is you may have to insulate to keep temp. steady.
Cheers! Mark

Thanks for the Reply Mark. The garage is insulated so holds temp pretty well. I think my biggest concern is the natural light that will come in form the big door being open. And if my wife runs in to anything... lol.

If you park in the garage, that would mean that you would expose your reef to carbon monoxide and exhaust fumes every time you pull in or start/warm up the car?

Would you be concerned about that if everything had a lid on it?

At first I was 100% for putting the sump in another room until I saw it was yoir garage. Lots of good reasons for why you shouldn’t put the sump in the garage and Id put the sump below the DT. But you also have awesome opportunity to set up AWC and ATO in the garage since you’re only 8 feet away. Thats a no brainer to me.

It sounds good at first, but unless your garage is climate controlled you will be exposing your sump to the extremes of summer and winter temps which could wreak havoc to your parameters. I which I could have a room dedicated to my filtration but a garage would be out of the question.
