Hello. I finally got my tank and pump and everything set up. I actually started cycling 2 days ago but idk if I have it set up correctly. The water in my skimmer bay is way too high but if I take it out it depletes my return pump bay. But the plunger that came set up in the tank is where I set the water lvl for the auto that came with the tank. I filled the tank and then the sump , turned on the pump and tried to set the pump it was about half power, I set the valve to keep the water lvl at the plunger but can’t quiet it down and the skimmer was overflowing. I came home today and about half the water was depleted in my pump bay but the rest of the water was still high lvl. How do I find the right balance? Any help or suggestions would be hugely appreciated. I just started and I’d hate to give up now over some technical issue. The instructions are pretty vague. Thanks again. Happy reefing. Cheers

….,and lastly the notorious RS valve. It’s kinda a pain in a** to adjust perfectly. I would google how to adjust that. I know you have to be very patient and make a small turn of the knob and wait 15-30 minutes to see where your at. You need to have the overflow box cover off so you can watch the level and try to get it as a small trickle going into the emergency overflow. It’s a balancing act of pump flow, RS valve adjustment, and water level. Let the games begin!
Lol. I thought maybe that’s how it worked but I was hoping it would be easier than that. Thank you

I saw that. That’s why I was confused. The gate is all the way down. I did not know it was adjustable.
That’s odd. If you were to measure from the bottom of the sump to the top of the gate all the way down it should be the same as from the bottom of the sump to the level indicator on the skimmer. I thought they were all designed that way on purpose. Which model is it?

Yeah, a lot of us remove the RS valve and replace it with a gate valve for ease of use. Once your all adjusted, everything should be great and dead silent with no more gurgling.

Actually I was looking at the wrong piece. I was looking at the wall between the Refugio and the skimmer. The wall with the foam bubble trapper thing was all the way up. I put it down and that got me to about an inch over the red line on the skimmer. It also put a lot of water in my pump area so now I can get more flow.

I think that will help with your skimmer issue for sure. The sump is probably overfilled. The water shouldn’t be any higher than the top of the gate, which should be pretty close to the mark on the skimmer rod. If it’s higher than the gate, then you may have to remove some water.

im on it. That was extremely helpful. I didn’t see anything in the manual about the gate. I may have been to excited and over looked it or something. That should clear up the issue.

What’s the reason for wanting to raise the gate?

I just want to thank everyone for all their help and advice. It’s good to know so many are willing to help especially someone so new to the hobbie. Just hopefully one day I will be able to kick some knowledge down to someone like myself. Thanks again. Cheers

In my 40 gallon tank with a 26 gallon sump I have a 5 gallon ATO reservoir which I fill every three days when it’s about half empty. So it’s 2.5 gallons of evaporation in three days. your results will differ based on your setup and home humidity etc. but yes it evaporates a lot of water!

Right now I’m trying to cycle so my temp is at 84 and my salinity is at about 20ppm . So the high temp is definitely making the water evaporate alot faster. I read somewhere not to use the auto until I have stabilized the bacteria and salinity so I haven’t filled it.
