Hey all,

I am looking to get a sump that has the option to add a filter roll. I am not a big fan of the socks and I know I am not going to change them every 3 days...

Can anyone recommend me an affordable sump that can be easily modified to add a roller filter with a refugium area? I have seen some sumps that already have a filter roll but they are so expensive...

This hobbie is really challenging for people like me that have a hard time making decisions...

Thanks

I used a trigger Triton sump and use a Aquamaxx AF-1 roller. Also I believe their Crystal series can do the same. No modification needed.

Sorry for my ignorance, what are the large tubes on the right side for? And do you have a refugium?

Thanks

Oh wait.. you can use where the roller is as a refugee?

Yes the roller is in the Refuge area . I do not run a fuge anymore in the second picture there is a Icecap insump turf scrubber.
With the curent setup I now only run the roller, Lots of bio media. and a large Skimmer. no fuge or turf scrubber. I carbon dose to keep nutrients low. The tubes to the right are media reactors . One has Aquaforest Life Bio Fill , the other is used for Carbon and Rawaphos.

Yours is a 44 right? I need to buy a 34 which makes me wonder if everything you have fits on it lol

I am actually thinking about buying a platinum 34 but it's so expensive and it has bad reviews lol

It's a great buy and I love what you did but I don't have enough space on my cavinet lol

The Trigger Triton 34 , Trigger rubby 30 , and crystal 30 will take the Clarisea 5000 and 3000 and the Aquamaxx AF-1 with little or no modification. last month I added a AF-1 to my Redsea Reefer 250 .I did have to mod the sump just as if I was going to use their rollermat. I just ordered another AF-1 for another tank that I am converting from Frag to LPS tank that sump is a 20gallon long.

The aquamaxx, the scrubber, and the skimmer?

I also have the option to take all the space on the cabinet but I read its a bad idea lol

in the 44 I had the AF-! and the Scrubber in the same chamber then the skimmer. Before I added the Scrubber I had the skimmer in the same chamber as the AF-1 then ran a Fuge .The Fuge and the scrubber for me never did well and I believe it is because the roller removed so much from the waater that the scrubber and fuge just did not have enough nutrients to do well. For the last 6 months I have been running AF-1 with extra biomedia in that chamber with a Aqumaxx XL media reactor filled with 1500ml of Aquaforest Life Bio Fill and a large Skimmer. I carbon dose 4.5 mil of TM BactoBallance every morning. This has been keeping the tank No3 at 5- 10 ppm and Po4 at .05-.1
Tank is 150 gallon SPS domanate with 24 fish ,large CUC, and feed 10 cubes frozen a day plus Auto feeder 5 times a day for the Anthias.

Wow... I love your aquarium.. I am tempting to buy the 44 even if it would leave me with no cabinet space. It's too tempting. The 39 would be ideal but I would have to go with a different version than the Triton :(

44 in a 60inch Cab gave me some extra room on the end. in a 48 inch cab the TriggerTriton 34 Rubby 36 or the Crystal 36 in would work and give you some extra space. I went with the 44 because I got it used for $150 so it was a no brainer for me . otherwise I was going to go with a 40 Breeder. I do wish I had more room under the tank next to the sump.
ATO and Apex /Trident are outside of the Cab. Calcium reactor and Battery backups take up a lot of space under. At times I wish I would have gone with a smaller sump.

I am going to go with the 34". The bars inside the cabinet makes the space smaller so it would leave me like 10-11" of free space for other equipment. I thought I needed a bigger sump for my 110 tank but a 31 gallon sump is enough.

Thanks for all the help and hopefully I can replicate what you have! Your build is awesome!
