Sump with separate canister filter, good?

I have recently added an algae scrubber/refugium to my sump and also running a canister filter. So right now I have my bio balls after media filters then running to the reactor through the 1st baffle that has media filter between the next baffle that has substrate then return pump. I am planning on moving the substrate out if the reactor will fit in its place and adding a protein skimmer in the 1st baffle and removing media Filter between the baffles. If that works should I do away with the canister filter? I do not want to pull anymore copa pods or macro algae out of the system that should not be pulled out. Can anyone give me their thoughts?

I would ditch the canister if using a skimmer, fuge, and sump

I run a canister pulling from my sump. I have a fluvial fx4 with 100 ceramic balls in it. Canister is just for those.

I like canisters but it sounds like just more maintenance. Sounds like you bioload would be well handled without it.

A pix would help and tank size, sump, etc.
