Sump without baffles

I do. Works great. I use the hang on filter sock.....no bubbles

Never seen a sump without baffles. You've got to have a way to separate things. It's pretty easy to even silicone in some glass for baffles. Heck, I did it several times.

I should mention I don't have a refugium. Otherwise don't see the need to seperate.

If you run a skimmer I see two reasons. Aas stated above, with no dedicated return section you run the risk of different water heights affecting skimmer performance. you also will have a million mico bubbles in your display tank without something resolving that issue. can resolve the water height issue with ATO, but skimmer will be tricky.

I run a 55 with no baffles, I did make a divider and a section for wet/dry with pvc and light diffuser. I use a float switch to a small pump in my top off container and have no water level issues. I am in the process of removing wet/dry and going with a new skimmer and reactor and still plan on no baffles.

I have seen Rubbermaid totes used with sand rock and macro on the drain end, skimmer in the middle on an egg crate stand and return as well on an egg crate stand.

All of my sumps have been run without baffles. Here's an older picture of the 10 gallon sump I have underneath my current 20 gallon DT. Everything is pretty much the same now, only the skimmer has been upgraded and there's a couple baseball size pieces of live rock down there as well. The sump I had on my old 60 gallon breeder was designed pretty much the same way, only it was much bigger. Also, the simplicity made it real easy to keep clean too.

And this set up doesn't have micro bubbles in the display?
I just don't see how baffles can't complicate things.

Yes, there are some micro bubbles in the DT, but not enough to cause any problems or anything. I actually get a kick out of micro bubbles to tell you the truth.

I have a remote sump/fuge that I just set up for my 72bow....originally I did not want a fuge as I didn't want another tank to maintain, so i went with small one chamber sump when i 1st set up my DT....the sump is just big enough just to fit a skimmer n what not

I wasn't thinking when I was doing this.....I didn't realize now much of a pain it is to run this without the baffles in this tank...what's happening is that I have to constantly fine tune the remote return pump so that the water level under the DT remains constant.... I just picked up piece of thick plexi glass that I will be installing in the near future

Also, as is I can't use my ATO system as it was dumping whole 5gal buckets of RO into the system due to the erratic water level fluctuations
