Sump

Looking to start a sump for my 55 gallon Reef Tank. What size sump do I need to go with? Thanks

You could have a 55g tank with a 55 g sump if you wanted .. all depends on where it's going and how much space there is availabil .. but the bigger the better as they say

Space for up to 30 gallon in guessing.

If you want to build one, you could use a 30 gallon. I did. If you want to buy, just make sure it will fit. Take measurements. Each stand provides different space. Decide what you want in a sump and how many sections you want to put different items. i.e refugium, skimmer, reactors, return pump, filter socks...

Yeah was thinking about building my own. Not sure what all I need. So all help is helpful.

Okay, well if a 30 gallon tank actually fits, you can buy baffles online( I think Melev's reef with cut them from acrylic to whatever size)or have your local glass store cut some 3/8" glass. You can then silicone them in. I set mine up so that the first section where the tank drains has a filter sock, cpr sock it. It also has my protein skimmer and heater. I then did a bubble trap to a 2 section refugium, one with rubble and one with macros. I have my ato dump into that section as well. I then have a return pump section. I like it because it leaves plenty of room for power failure and keeps the skimmer section at the same height(within 1/4") depending on how much flow I use.

Each section is custom so no space has to be wasted.
