Hi I’m new to the saltwater hobby and I was wondering what sump is the best choice for me. I have a 46 gal bow front tank and I’m looking for a great quality cheap to moderate priced sump. Thanks!

First off, Welcome to R2R!!! :)

For the sump, depending on the volume you are looking for, if you are a DIY, you could just make your own to save money! If not there are all kinds of them out there available, surely on that would fit your budget. This also will likely depend on what purposes you intend to use it for! Trigger systems and Eshopps are well known and relatively affordable if you just want to purchase one instead of DIY!

Welcome to the club !!!!!!!!!
If you have a LFS near you, go talk to them and have them show you their sumps in action. They will be much larger than the one you need. You will get an understanding of what they have in them and how much space you need for your equipment.

I would see if you could get a used sump setup from your LFS. It will save you a ton of money over the custom fab jobs out there.

Worry less about how cool your new sump looks and more about your budget. Anything that is food grade compatible can be a sump.

I just disconnected a 40g DT from a 120g DT and sump (the DT's shared the sump). I needed/wanted a sump. So while I was building a new one I used a 35g Brute garbage can as a sump. It was in use for 2 months and worked just fine. I looks like crap in our living space... but it worked until I got my new sump set up.

There are more photos in my build thread which is linked in my signature at the bottom of this post.

And now the new cabinet and new sump/refugium is running. It's not completely finished, but it's running!
