What’s the best way to keep your sump? I just have my skimmer down there on a 3 tier filter system. Should I put live rock down there. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Your sump can be ran pretty much any way you want....they are totally configurable dependent on what you are trying to achieve. I like my sump clean, so I just run it with the filter socks, skimmer, heater, and probes. Some use it for a refugium and keep algae, DSB, etc for nutrient removal.

I like mine clean also. No refugium. What are filter socks and probes ?

Probes for measuring things like tempature, ORP, salinity, PH. I use the Neptune Systems Apex 2016 which has those. Filter socks are how many people clean out small particles in their water.

Sounds good thanks. So if I decided to keep nothing in my sump would my corals be fine or am I better off looking into a refugium down the line.

Depends on what you keep, sump size, tank size.

What is the 3 tier filtration system?

Do you have pics of setup?

This

NY Steelo has an in depth (maybe TMI for some) video about sump refugium design

Oh OK, when I think tiers I think vertical so I was just making sure this was not like a wet dry or something.

That fuge is cool, I prefer no sand personally, don't like sand near pumps, and really chaeto and some LR rubble is all I use and need.

My fuge is primarily for pods, not so much for nutrient export, but I get some.

I keep anthias and mandarins which benefit from pods, that's my main objective.

Mine.

actually think u r technically correct then the rest of us dumb folks who missuse terminologies, i.e. tiers. lol.
BTW, that's gotta be one of the cleanest sumps I've seen! bravo

All good, I'm not a terminology cop so much as making sure we are advising properly.

Baffles w/ multiple chambers or sections I guess would be more correct though.

Yes, that was new, they usually only look that clean when new, but I do vac it once in a blue moon so it's not too bad.

That is just a cheapo petco dollar a gallon sale 40b that I baffled off myself.
