Can you tell us a little more about your setup? I’m not sure I understand the question.

To fill up the new sump, what type of water do I use?

Any new water you adding = saltwater .

To replace water that has evaporated = rodi water as water evaporates but salt stays in system.

So if say for example you run a tank without a sump then add a sump to the system and sump operating volume = 30 gallons then you need add 30 gallons of saltwater to whatever sg your display already running at

You would use salt to fill up your new sump. RO water to top it off once its running.

If sg in display is what you happy with yes.
If want it higher sg then add higher sg saltwater and add less if want less as will then change sg in dt,but make sure test before and after and best to do slowly .
If no livestock in dt then not much harm can be done but if livestock in dt then need match dt salinity or change it slowly.
They say a fish for example can tolerate salinity drops better than can tolerate salinity increases but still best to change salinity over days not minutes/ hours ( if want to change it)

And little tip if got an ato connected to your sump,font forget to turn I off when do water changes especially if taking water out sump ,otherwise ato fresh rodi water gets pumped in reducing salinity of the system

I have few plugs for equipment on same 4 way extension now and just turn that one plug off which turns off all at once what I want off and put in exact same water volume I took out ( measure in 5 gallon buckets first when making saltwater then siphon put into 5 gallon buckets then this way dont have to keep adjusting height of ato sensor)

Okay so just match the display salinity

Just on the off chance that you're not understanding the concept of the sump...the water in the display tank and the water in the sump are all one in the same. Water travels down to the sump and back up to the display tank. The main purpose of the sump is so you can hide all the equipment (ie heaters, protein skimmer, filters etc).
