So, some of you may remember the crab that I recently caught out of our 40 frag tank. Ya know, the one that I think was munching on entire Zoanthid colonies, at the rate of a colony every couple nights. Well, I caught him a couple weeks ago, and banished him to the refugium portion of my sump.

The other day, I noticed it'd made it over the partition, and was in my skimmer section. I really didn't think anything of it, other than how much of a pain it was going to be to catch, with the skimmer in the way. So, I left it there.

Last night, I noticed the skimmer making a strange noise. Sounded like it wasn't getting enough air. Also, wasn't creating near the bubbles it should. This was right before bed, so I figured I'd remove and clean it today.

Today....
I get ready to take the skimmer out, and notice this....

STUPID CRAB!!!!

Now it's a trip to House of Hose, today.

I never keep NON-reef safe animals even on a sump or frag tank. it's always toast for them in my opinion.

OMG! LOL. Evil, evil crab! I guess he just got bored down in the sump and wanted some attention.

thats funny.. swift retribution by the powers that be! hahaha.. sorry about your skimmer line.

Boil some water, steam the crab, melt some butter, eat the crab.

Not a good option, as the flesh of this crab, Atergatis floridus (Xanthid Egg Crab), is actually toxic.

Yeah, but I guess I'm a softy at heart. It's not the crab's fault it got removed from the ocean...lol. Unless it had an agenda!!!

Yes sorry about your skimmer, but that is funny as heck! LOL!

I had one in my fuge that was taking arms off of a serpent star and a temp probe and cut right through the wire and all. when I took every thing out to get him there was 2 of them and the crabs wore like 2" across. They wore [FONT=&quot]Exiled from the tank all together.

No more problems

Yikes! That's one mean mean crab.

LOL Thanks all, for your condolences on the skimmer. Fortunately, it'll just be a couple bucks to replace the airline...

Now just to figure out what to do with this crab!! I hate the thought of killing it. I don't know anyone with a large trigger or puffer...lol. Might just put him back in the refugium, and keep a closer eye on it. Maybe give it the munched hose, to keep it entertained!!

you could always set up a little pico for him to live in. Im sure you could get one up and running within a day or 2.

Problem with that idea.

If I have a box that holds saltwater, I always end up wanting to put corals in it...lol. This guy's proven that it's not very "coral safe."

I figured out how it got from refugium, over to the skimmer section. It climbed the heater, which allows access to both areas. If I were to move the heater, I could safely return it to the refugium. There would also be no other equipment in there, on which cords, it could feast.

hmm if u lived closer i would take him lol i have 2 crabs already taht are 3-4in and wil grow up to 8-12" lol in a 30 gal right now about to be in a 55

but your a long ways away from kansas and im not gonna pay to have a crab sent threw the mail lol

Good luck with him they can be PITA lol

If you hurt him ima call PETA he is a little crab that just wanted somthing to do.
