Good morning everyone I'm looking at getting an external sump and I was inquiring this community about what exactly I can do. My hopes is that I can get a slim profile sit behind sump for a 20 gal long to add my protein skimmer and uv filter to get it out of my display tank. Anything helps I'll take any recommendations as the display tank is rather crowded.

They dont make anything that would sit behind your tank thats slim and readily plumbable to your 20g L.

You should look into the hang on refugiums. You can put all your stuff in there and they are slim

Gotcha I guess I've found a demand for a nonexistent product .. might just mess around and make one haha sell it on Etsy.. but seriously I've explored under sided sumps and would you have recommendations for pumps and fittings ect? I can build one with an existing 10 gal quarantine tank I just need to figure out how

Yeah, you would need to either drill your display or be comfortable running an eshopps HOB overflow. (I ran an eshopps for the better part of a decade with no issues) and its the easiest method to set up for use with a sump.
A 10g sump below would be perfect for your 20g.

Get yourself a diy sump kit and build it first!

Problem is that a lot of those 20g longs (aqueons/petco specials) aren’t able to be drilled. I think it’s hit or miss on the panels and which ones are tempered or not. I’ve contacted them before and their response was that it’s really a gamble as to what the back panels are made of. I’m pretty sure those hob overflows have the danger of losing prime don’t they?

I ended up buying a 22g long from mr. aqua that I’m starting soon.
