I agree^Only if they ask... Other reefers always do.. the uninitiated are usually in awe of the tank and its inhabitants and aren't concerned with the nuts and bolts...
I have visable pods moving around on my macro algae in my fuge, so I show that to kinda explain the whole reef ecosystem of fish waste grows macros, macros feed pods & they reproduce, pods travel into the return and into the tank, pods feed my fish and corals, fish & corals produce waste. Rinse and repeat. Non hobbyists always find that to be the coolest thing ever. Well maybe just the kind of people I chill with lol. When showing off your show tank , do you make your sump part of the show?
Well, who doesn't like a dark box? Oh, the mysteries of it all...I tend to give a tour of the fish room, and might as well show off the sump while in there. Though it's usually uninteresting, because the sumps are on reverse daylight so they are just dark boxes.
NICE!!!@Pellco - 100% I show off the heart of my system and my mixing station. I currently working on my Apex Electrical panels but I just finished up my mixing station that sits about 20 ft from display., here is a decent pix of it and my brand new sump.
