sun coral and over feeding tank

I have had a sun coral for 6 months. It is doing great. I keep having problems with feeding though. I will go several days without feeding because I get a bad algae outbreak and I believe its because of all the shrimp that is in the tank that the sun coral doesn't catch and it is left to decay. What do yall feed and how often? Anyone else struggle with this? I have a 30 gallon mixed tank.

Increase your nutrient export, specifically phosphate. Then feed the sun coral more.

I feed my sun corals (one is a black sun) daily, but only once a week target fed. The target feeding is using NLS Small fish formula pellets. During the week they will catch those pellets, cyclop-eeze, mysis, and copepods during tank feedings (3-5 times daily).

I direct feed my yellow and dendro a few times a week. Same time as I'm feeding acans. Just picked up a ~20 head orange yesterday.

I just broadcast feed for right now, but for the once weekly target feed I have a syringe. I have a peristaltic pump and wine chiller on standby right now that will become my auto feeder and I don't think I'll need to target feed them after that. It's basically modeled after what is used at the Steinhart Aquarium on their NPS sun coral/anthias tank.

I defrost a cube of mysis and cyclops or Rotifers and spot feed with a turkey baster. I do it at night when the tentacles on my acans, sun coral and dendro are out. I just shoot a little in each head till it grabs it. Shut off pumps and mp10s in feed mode. I have about 10 different acans and a Bowerbanki. Two cubes usually takes care of all of them. This new orange sun coral took about a cube of mysis to get every head. It's still in a srparate frag tank.

I use to feed my sun coral cyclopeeze with a turkey baster. If i remember they would get fed ever other or every third day. Also you might want to try cutting a 2 liter bottle at the bottom and place it over the coral then spot feed directly so that its in one area and if you have and shrimp/fish going after the food. That's why when I target feed mine I do it during fish feeding time. They're all busy going after everything that is flying around (I don't turn off any pumps, nor do I run mechanical filtration or a skimmer) so I never have to worry about anything stealing food. Heck, even when I just feed a scoop of pellets, after the fish are done and the corals are mopping up any that are left floating around, if a fish sees a pellet waiting to be eaten they don't bother it.
