age old question.....why wont my sun coral open. EVERYTHING else in the tank is happy and growing great, sps, lps, zoas, all of it. my tank is well established (2years) and i have kept one in the past that did very well until an extended outage in my tank while i was away. i've tried the bottle trick and i'm trying to feed mysis or brine shrimp. if anyone has any suggestions feel free.

We've kept them in the past. We would pull ours out of the tank and place in a plastic bowl with tank water and feed with a turkey baster until they were trained. It usually would take a few days to get a new one to fully open for the feeding. Once they were trained, we would use the bottle trick to keep our cleaner shrimp from stealing the food.

Hope this is helpful...

I always added a drop or to of clam juice to the tank about 30 minutes before feeding. It never felled. I alway fed my cleaner shrimp before the sun coral. It might work for you.

You could do this or use the juice from mysis. They seem to need to smell the juice before they come out. Be careful. You can quickly foul your water.

Yeah I know. Clam juice really gets there attention but your right about fouling. That is why I said a drop or two. But you need a good skimmer. Mysis juice would be better and safer.
