Bought this sun coral yesterday, did a dip and introduced it to my tank. Today I did a spray of shrimp juice over the coral and the middle "cap" came completely off.

Would like to know what's going on, if anyone has dealt with this before.

You do know that they are none photosynthetic coral only eats food right?
With that being said in the past I have brought them back by placing them on sand bed on small rock so sand stays off them then I take 2 or 3 liter pop bottle and cut bottom off and take cap off bottle. Then I put bottle over sun coral and sink bottle into sand so it stays over coral. Then I use Small mysis and Things like oyster feast and squirt it into cap opening with baster this way coral stays surrounded by food without power heads blowing away and fish and cuc taking it from sun coral. So this every day for like 30 min after each time just removing bottle after the 30 min so coral does not die due to pollutants from the food. Hope you understand what I’m saying

correct.
google sun corals direct to see what healthy suns look like. (made the same mistake with my first sun)
Did my week of research just to find out they aren't suppose to look like what I bought. Fun times, just hoping I can bring it back

A reason I got the sun corals are because my lights atm are a joke, some old freshwater lights, till I upgrade. But yes I am fine with feeding them, I thought it was interesting how they reproduce.

Likely too much light. They required heavy shaded area of tank with moderate water flow

Not true plenty of people have sun corals grow at the top of their tank for ease of feeding, I'm sure at a certain point they could be torched like other corals can from intense light

My sun coral is placed very high to make it easier to feed. I have very strong lighting and it doesn't care one bit. Lighting won't be the issue here.
